Happy Birthday CCPC!

Happy First Birthday CCPC12 months ago, on Easter Sunday 2008, this church began holding public services of worship. Old Testament: Esther PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Campbell

A study, published in 2004, found that 15 percent of Americans read their horoscopes every day or “quite often” and 30 percent “just occasionally.” Here in Australia, I would guess that we give a similar amount of eyeball time, if not greater. Newspapers, magazines, daytime television and shops spruiking the latest in New Age spirituality provide a constant supply.

So why do we do it? Isn't it completely irrational? Why do we think the movement of the stars and planets will have any impact on our lives? Perhaps we are too busy to think anything else. Perhaps we sense a greater connectedness with the world around us, but have not found a better explanation.

This July, at CCPC, we will be studying the book of Esther.

This could be a story about a Jewish orphan who becomes Queen of Persia - extraordinary good fortune. This could be a story of how she used her position to deliver her people from annihilation - refusing to accept her destiny.

Or this could be a story about God. About his ongoing rule over and love for his people. Who continues to keep his promises, even though they are far from home. And if it is about God, then this book provides a better explanation than any horoscope, palm reading or medium.

No matter which star sign you are (I'm a Sagittarius), the place to be this winter will be 29 Queen Street, at 10am on Sunday mornings. Recorded in the Bible, and seen in the lives of people like Esther, is God -- at work, in all things, delivering and preserving his people.

Please join us!

Speculating on Beatie's Presbyterianism PDF Print E-mail

The corruption trial of Gordon Nuttall has been making national headlines. On the ABC’s PM program, on Friday 3 July, the following report was made:

“The court has heard Nuttall had not declared the payments to Cabinet or the Parliament, but Peter Beattie said as premier his approach to political disclosures was puritanical and seen by some ministers as Presbyterian in nature. This drew laughs from the gallery.”

What did the former premier mean by this reference to his perceived “Presbyterian approach”? How does being Presbyterian relate to the task of political disclosures? And why did the reference draw laughs? Can it be explained by his delivery, or are Presbyterians known for a certain (unfortunate) quality?

To be honest, I’m not really sure what he meant, and I’m a Presbyterian by training and with a family history in the church.

Community Groups (CGs)

This is our small group ministry. To find out more about this important part of CCPC, you might like to take a look at some of our FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) - particularly What is a 'community group'?

Yeppoon

Weekly on Sundays - 5:30-7:30pm. Venue is Queen Street Community Hall. Starts with food - bring a plate to share (or just turn up). There are lots of kids at this CG, and we (and they) would welcome more. Please ring or email Michael for details.

Your neck of the woods?

Short on Christian fellowship? Have questions, need answers? Neighbours and family members want to learn more about Jesus?

A community group might be just the thing. We could have one meeting at your place, or somewhere convenient, in a jiffy. Michael would love to hear from you.

Mission Teams (MTs)

This is local mission with intent. When our CGs have the desire, but not the resources, to reach out to a particular group of people in the community, we set up a mission team. We bring together people with a love for Jesus, the right talents, and an interest in seeing certain people come to repentance and faith in Jesus.

PWA

Monthly on the first Monday at 1pm at the Queen Street Community Hall. PWA stands for: Presbyterian Women's Association. Theirs is a mission to women. They want to encourage and support the women in the church, and reach out to women in our community. Their goal is to see women disciples of Jesus. Will you help?

See the Calendar for the latest dates.

Children

This mission team meets on the first Thursday of each month @ 1pm. It plans for and coordinates our ministry to children. Includes Sunday School, children’s talks on Sunday mornings, RE in the schools, an after-school club, and much more. Want to see children come to faith in Jesus Christ? Please offer to serve.
